Dan Bricklin confronts Microsoft exec on patents
Photo
4 yrs 6 mos ago
Man, this ruled. Simon Brown was literally speechless. Bricklin stated that IP played no part in Microsoft's early success, and for them - via people like Brown - to push the "Patents are essential for a company to be successful" line is disingenuous at best. They only developed this deep devotion to patents once they got big. (Not a direct quote, but a faithful approximation.) As Bricklin put it: "Microsoft is the poster child of success without patents." Brown tried to evade the question, but when pressed further, claimed: "I don't know enough about the early history of the company to comment on that." Painful to watch, but it needed to be said. Well done, Dan.

Show-stopping demo

Bruno Uzzan, founder of Total Immersion (http://www.t-immersion.com), demonstrates his company's amazing technology. He's not holding a light saber in his hand, but that's what's on the screen - transmitting 400,000 polygons per second in real time. Not quite sure precisely what that means, but the end result is spectacular.

You wouldn't spot those on the tables at a US or UK event. (I don't smoke, but this cheered me anyway - one in the eye for the health fascists.)
